Q3 2025

In brief

Pre-production samples have cleared and the work moves from the factory floor to the narrative; capturing the visual language on location in Iceland; and locking in January 20 for launch.

From millimetres to narrative

When final pre-production samples clear without a loose thread, the quiet is disorienting. For months, the work is measured in millimetres, seam tolerances and tear strength. Then, overnight, the physical object is finished, and no one outside the room knows why it exists.

A finished product is not a launch. The past ninety days have been the bridge between the two: translating years of hardware decisions into a single, legible argument. Gear in this category has always been sold as a pile of items or a pitch on fear. Moving Rhino Rdy into a category of its own meant dropping the fear language entirely. Every diagram, module label and line of copy had to carry the same weight as the hardware itself. If the customer has to read a manual to understand why the system works, the narrative failed.

Iceland, on film

We returned from Iceland with raw footage, stills and 3D terrain scans. It would have been cheaper and faster to shoot in a studio in Los Angeles. It also would have been a lie.

Place matters because environment dictates form. You cannot design equipment for exposure, wind and volcanic basalt and then photograph it under softboxes. In the highlands, bad gear announces itself within an hour. Straps bind, zippers foul with grit, and low-contrast labels vanish in flat light. Shooting the system in the conditions that shaped it gave us more than campaign assets; it gave us the visual foundation for the entire brand: black, a single signal orange, and raw terrain captured in three dimensions.

Setting the date

We are going live on January 20, 2026.

Setting a hard date forces every downstream variable into the open. Pricing a modular system, where the Core-01 panel, the sealed modules and three pack volumes all have to make sense alone and together, was an exercise in constraint. Price too low, and you compromise the materials that make the gear last for decades. Price too high, and readiness becomes a luxury good.

We built the campaign structure around a single bet: that a disciplined audience is tired of disposable gear and fear-based marketing. Come January, we find out if the market agrees.

Until next time, onwards, Michael
